Match Preview

Both Brazil and Argentina are gearing up for the 2019 Copa America, so the autumn friendly games offer an opportunity for coaches to experiment with personnel and fine-tune tactics.

Argentina are shorn of some of their most recognisable performers for the game, with Messi, Aguero and Di Maria among those not in the squad, but their absence has allowed space for the likes of Lautaro Martinez and Ricardo Pereyra to shine, not to mention the likes of Icardi and Paulo Dybala.

Brazil, on the other hand, boast a typically strong panel, with Tite including stars such as Neymar and Philippe Coutinho in his squad for the match. Nevertheless, the 57-year-old has included a number of new faces, with the likes of Richarlison, Arthur and Malcom being given a chance to impress.

Tite was not pleased with his side’s performance in their 2-0 win over Saudi Arabia last week and he will be demanding a much more passionate display against their bitter rivals.

“We were not convincing,” Tite told reporters of his side’s victory. “We won because we had creativity up front and that was it. Brazil versus Argentina is never a friendly. We hope to be better for that.”

Brazil vs Argentina

A Neymar-led Brazil team faces a Lionel Messi-less Argentina national team on Tuesday in an international friendly in Saudi Arabia. It’s an experienced Brazil side against the neighbors who have a ton of youth and not as many household names as usual outside of guys like Paulo Dybala and Mauro Icardi. Here’s how you can watch the match and our prediction:

Brazil vs. Argentina prediction

This Brazil team is too experienced and the Argentina side is too inexperienced. Because of that, Brazil should have the majority of the chances and finish the match with the victory. Expect Neymar to score and for Brazil to win comfortably. Brazil 3, Argentina 1.

It’s been tough to beat the 49ers on Monday Night Football over the last several years. San Francisco will go into Green Bay riding a nine-game winning streak in Monday games.

Perhaps the most impressive part of those wins is the dominance they’ve exhibited in them. They won all nine by double-digits, with an average margin of victory of 19.3 points-per-game.

Their closest contest in that stretch was a 10-point win over the Falcons in Week 16 of the 2013 season. That was the final game at Candlestick where NaVorro Bowman’s pick-six sealed a victory and sent the 49ers to the playoffs.

That Bowman play isn’t the only notable thing to happen in those Monday night games though. Weird things happen on Monday night. Let’s run down the list of the 49ers’ last nine Monday Night Football contests and find the quirky thing from each one:
This was the game where the box on the power line near Candlestick Park exploded and power was lost at the stadium. It’s a little weird that this wasn’t the only Jim Harbaugh-coached game that involved a power outage. San Francisco also had a plus-four turnover margin this game. That’s not a thing that happens much these days.

Two statistical oddities from this one. The Cardinals, for the second time in as many MNF games against the 49ers, couldn’t run the ball. They amassed seven yards on nine carries. That makes 20 yards on 20 carries in their last two Monday Night Football games vs. the 49ers.

The second fun stat from this game is Alex Smith’s incredible efficiency. Smith 18-of-19 pass attempts for 232 yards and three touchdowns. His lone miss was a drop that hit tight end Delanie Walker in the chest.

Colin Kaepernick’s debut was this night. He finished 16-of-23 for 243 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions. The Bears entered this game with 30 takeaways in nine games, but had none against the 49ers. It was their only game all year without at least one takeaway.

On Sunday the Rams take on Denver at 4:05 p.m. The Rams don’t have the home-field advantage, but they do enjoy a 7-point advantage in the spread.

The Rams might be getting used to good results now that the team has five wins in a row. They skirted past Seattle 33-31. Todd Gurley, who rushed for 77 yards and 3 touchdowns, was a major factor in the Rams’ success. If you haven’t heard Gurley’s name lately, then you haven’t been paying much attention: he has loomed large in their past five games.

Meanwhile, things haven’t been easy for Denver, and their game last Sunday only extended their streak of losses to three. Last Sunday, they lost to the Jets by a decisive 18-point margin.

The Rams’ win lifted them to 5-0 while Denver’s defeat dropped them down to 2-3. The teams both might be coming in a bit winded after having run the length of the field multiple times (the Rams picked up 476 yards, Denver 469).
It’s not hard to see why the Los Angeles Rams are favored by a touchdown over the Denver Broncos on Sunday. They have the league’s top passer in Jared Goff, the No. 2 rusher in Todd Gurley and three receivers on pace for more than 1,300 yards.

Despite their struggles on defense recently, the Rams are still the team to beat in the NFC, and possibly in all of football. The Broncos are a legitimate threat with their two-headed monster in the backfield – Phillip Lindsay and Royce Freeman – but their secondary has been shaky, and unless Von Miller gets to the quarterback consistently, the pass rush isn’t great.

It’s highly likely the Rams move to 6-0 on the year Sunday, and that’s exactly what the experts expect to happen. According to NFL Pick Watch, 97 percent of experts are picking the Rams. Here are five people taking L.A.
All week, the prominent conversation surrounding the Rams’ defense has centered on the unit’s ability to stop the run.

Making it clear he was speaking for himself and not necessarily using language the team had discussed, defensive lineman Ndamukong Suh said the club’s run defense had been “terrible” over the last couple weeks.

And if players aren’t where they’re supposed to be — as in, trying to make a play in the gap between the guard and tackle instead of just staying home between the guard and center — that’s when long runs can break off.

49ers vs Packers

49ers vs Packers: San Francisco 49ers running back Matt Breida is questionable for Monday night’s game against the Green Bay Packers because of shoulder and ankle injuries.  James and Victor Bolden recorded their first NFL catches last week against the Arizona Cardinals. And they are certain to get more chances Monday night when the 49ers face the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field.

Wide receiver Marquise Goodwin will return to the lineup on Monday after sitting out with hamstring and quadriceps injuries, but slot receiver Trent Taylor will not play due to a back condition, 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said.

Taylor, who underwent an offseason procedure to remove bone spurs from his back, has 16 receptions for 125 yards and a touchdown in the 49ers’ first five games. As a rookie last season, he caught 43 passes for 430 yards and two TDs.

Veteran Pierre Garçon, who has not practiced this week, is likely to play, but the 49ers will not have Goodwin’s backup, Dante Pettis, who remains out of action with a knee injury.

“We think (Goodwin) is going to be back, but Trent is going to be down,” Shanahan said on “49ers Game Plan,” which airs Saturday on NBC Bay Area (Ch. 3) at 7 p.m.

“Guys have to step up and play in that position, also. Pierre has missed the week of practice, so I know he’s not going into it 100 percent. I do think he’ll play, but all of our guys have to step up and they got to be ready to adjust as the game goes.”

Packers vs 49ers

Packers vs 49ers : The Green Bay Packers listed eight players as questionable on the team’s final injury report before Monday night’s matchup with the San Francisco 49ers. Spriggs was listed as a non-participant Saturday after injuring his ankle during practice Friday.

The Green Bay Packers are 9-0 straight up and 7-2 against the spread in their last nine games as a betting favorite at home. The Packers will try to extend that winning streak to 10 games this Monday night when they host the San Francisco 49ers.

Green Bay is a 9.5-point home favorite at sportsbooks monitored by In their last 36 games at home against teams with losing records, the Packers are 28-7-1 SU.

Packers fans were hoping that Aaron Rodgers leading the team to a thrilling comeback victory over the Chicago Bears in Week 1 would be the sign of many wins to come. Instead, the team has gone just 1-2-1 SU since then, tying Minnesota and losing both of its road games to Washington and Detroit.

The Packers welcome their bye week next week as a chance for Aaron Rodgers to rest his banged up knee, but things won’t get easier coming out of it with back-to-back road games against the Los Angeles Rams and New England Patriots.

Since 1996, Green Bay owns an 8-2 SU and 5-3-2 ATS record in 10 home games against San Francisco per the OddsShark NFL Database. Unfortunately for the Packers, both of those two losses have come in San Francisco’s last two trips to Lambeau Field.

This game was picked to be on Monday night for the potential of a Jimmy Garoppolo vs. Aaron Rodgers showdown, but that matchup went by the wayside when Garoppolo was lost for the season with a torn ACL. San Francisco hasn’t fared well without its star quarterback going 0-3 SU and 1-2 ATS since his injury to fall to 1-4 SU and ATS on the season.

San Francisco is 0-11 SU in its last 11 games as an underdog of nine points or more but has gone 4-1 ATS in its last five games as one.

Monday night’s total is set at 46.5 points. The OVER is 4-0 in San Francisco’s last four games.

This is a must-win game for Green Bay. With a stretch of four road games in five weeks coming up after the bye, the Packers can’t afford to let this chance at a win over the injury-riddled 49ers slip away.

GREEN BAY – The Packers have listed eight players as questionable for Monday night’s game with the San Francisco 49ers, including right tackle Bryan Bulaga (knee).

Head Coach Mike McCarthy said during his Friday morning press conference he’s “not concerned” that Bulaga’s injury is anything major.

Reserve tackle Jason Springs was added to the injury report on Friday with an ankle injury. While the Packers did not practice on Saturday, Spriggs was given a “did not participate” designation for Saturday and is also listed as questionable.

Spriggs had “a little setback in practice,” McCarthy said, and they’re “still looking at him.”

Receivers Randall Cobb (hamstring) and Geronimo Allison (hamstring) were both listed as limited participants on Saturday and as questionable for Monday’s game.

“Right now, people are really into the Brewers. If there is a championship game at that time, which one do you think the fans are going to pick?” said Bill Wenzel of Titletown Tickets and Tours. “I had people at the Bills game say they were going to sell their Packers tickets and watch the Brewers.”

The average lowest get-in price for the game against the San Francisco 49ers at Lambeau Field was $105 on Monday, the lowest price of the year, and down from $132 last week and $145 on Sept. 4.

On Monday, the Brewers are scheduled to be on the road, playing the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Championship Series, so fans might decide to stay home and watch both games on TV.

Meanwhile, the Packers have played poorly the last three weeks, including in a 31-23 loss to the Detroit Lions on Sunday in which Green Bay lost three fumbles and missed four field goals and an extra point.
